GOVERNMENT MEDICAL COLLEGE, KARUR

Government Medical College, Karur is a prestigious institution affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R Medical University. It is situated along the serene banks of river Amaravathi.

Government Medical College Hospital offers high class medical facilities to the public with earnest sincerity and care.  The maternity ward of the Govt Hospital, Karur was founded by E.W.LEGH, I.C.S on 16.12.1920 and inaugurated by P. MACQUEEN I.C.S., the then collector of Trichinopoly during the British Reign. It is still functioning for the public welfare. Well equipped Ophthalmology Operation Theatre  has been operating since October,1999. An enhanced Intensive Cardiac Care Unit is in service for the people  from  22.3.2000. An excellently functioning Emergency Medicine block was inaugurated on 21.8.1985 is serving people till date to witness the light of joy in the faces of the millions of people.

It also encompasses special units like the digital x-ray unit, burns ward etc. It has a functional Tuberculosis centre of the Govt Hospital, Karur. The Siddha medicine block of the Govt Hospital, Karur also functions efficiently. In addition to these, there are a vast multitude of medical services offered at the hospital. Hence, it is a steadfast succour to the people at times of their need and demonstrates the virtue of humanity.

Govt Medical College, Karur offers the Undergraduate course in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) and  Paramedical courses under the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University and NMC following the Competency Based Medical Education (CBME) Curriculum. The college got permission for admitting 150 MBBS seats under its shelter on 18.5.2019.Thus, it acts as a hub where hundreds of young budding doctors are trained and transformed into great medical laureates by the experienced faculties of various departments.

They groom the students with care so that they come out in flying colours by inculcating high morale, knowledge and practical skills.
